Ostrich

Ostrich belong to the family Struthionidae. They are the largest bird in the world and they are the only birds having 2 toes. They can be found in desert to bushveld habitat in flocks of up to 40 birds. Ostrich are mainly found in the western areas of Southern Africa. They can run at speeds of up to 60ph from a month old and may breed in any month of the year. Both male and female incubate the eggs from 39-53 days before hatching. They also have the largest eye of all land vertebrates. They are resident in areas where they are found and are common. They feed on small reptiles, insects, berries, grass and seed.
